Game Prediction - Clemson vs. Georgia

In case you haven’t heard football is back in Death Valley, and the August 31st opener may be the biggest game in Clemson, in the last 30 years.

The Tigers will renew an old rivalry against the Georgia Bulldogs in front of a national television audience Saturday evening in a game that could have national championship implications.

The story lines are abundant in this game, with high-powered offenses and the ACC versus the SEC, but which team is ready to take that next step toward being an elite team and making a run toward Pasadena?

No. 5 Georgia at No. 8 Clemson

Why Georgia Might Win
The Georgia Bulldogs may have the best offense in the country with the potent combination of veteran quarterback Aaron Murray and running backs Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley. Murray has had a tendency in the past to start slow or not play to his potential in big games; however, after almost single-handily winning the SEC Championship Game against Alabama, Murray appears to have taken a big step toward being consistent on the big stage. Gurley and Marshall combined for over 2,000 yards in 2012 and will only get better in 2013 behind an experienced offensive line. If Georgia can establish a consistent running game, then Murray can use the play-action pass against Clemson’s young and inexperienced secondary.

Why Clemson Might Win
As loaded as Georgia’s offense is, Clemson doesn’t exactly have a shortage of playmakers on offense either. The Tigers return quarterback Tajh Boyd and wide receiver Sammy Watkins, along with a plethora of other playmakers. The good news is that the Tigers also return four starters on the offensive line. If Clemson is to be successful Saturday night, they are going to have to establish a running game with Roderick McDowell, Zac Brooks and C.J. Davidson in order to keep the defense from keying in on Boyd and the passing game.

Defensively, Clemson brings back an experienced defensive front led by defensive tackles Grady Jarrett and Josh Watson and linebackers Spencer Shuey and Quandon Christian. The Tigers should be able to get pressure on the quarterback more consistently in 2013, and if they can make Murray uncomfortable the Bulldogs may become one-dimensional.

The X-Factors

Chandler Catanzaro: With both teams essentially being even on both offense and defense, the game could come down to special teams. Enter Chandler Catanzaro. Catanzaro missed only one field goal and two extra points in 2012; however, he hit the game- winning field goal in the Chick-fil-A Bowl game against LSU. If the Tigers can stay within striking distance, Catanzaro can be the difference maker late in the game with a big kick.

Vic Beasley: Beasley burst on the scene last season, racking up a team-high eight sacks in just 288 snaps. As a full-time starter in 2013, Beasley is ready to take that number to a whole new level and wreak havoc on opposing teams. The key for the Clemson defense against Georgia will be making Murray uncomfortable and that all starts with Beasley, who can over power an offensive lineman or just run right past them. If Beasley can consistently get past Georgia’s experienced offensive line, then it could be a long night for the Bulldogs.

Clemson Offensive Snap Count: The Clemson Tigers averaged over 80 plays per game in 2012 and ran over 100 plays twice, something the Georgia defense just doesn’t see in the SEC. As fast as the Tigers were a year ago, Morris wants to go even faster this season and push the snap count up to 92-94 plays per game. If the Tigers can run at least 85 plays, they will have an advantage over the Bulldogs on what is sure to be a hot and humid night in Death Valley. Many will make the claim that Georgia’s defense should be well-rested and fresh in the first game of the season, but playing in the heat against an offense that likes to snap the ball with 25 to 30 seconds remaining on the play clock can take a toll on a young defense that has yet to play a game.

What Will Happen
Death Valley will be rocking with what could be the largest crowd since the first Bowden Bowl in 1999, but when the ball is snapped, it all comes down to who can hit the hardest and who can score the most points. Make no mistake about it, both teams are going to score points and both defenses are going to make mistakes. However, with the home crowd behind them, the Clemson defense will make the crucial stops necessary at the end of the game to seal the victory.

FINAL SCORE: CLEMSON 31 – GEORGIA 27

Are you ready for some football?

Can you believe it's officially football season? This year has really flown by! I am so ready for Clemson gamedays and Fall weather...this is absolutely my favorite time of year.

Clemson vs. PC

Who's going to the game? If it's your first time at a Clemson home football game, check out this nifty, online guide, "The Tiger Fan's Guide to Clemson Football Game Days", created by IPTAY and the Clemson Athletic Department. It has useful tips even for experienced Clemson fans. Also make sure you read up on some new Death Valley policies for game days. No backpacks folks.

If you make it into Clemson early on Friday, make sure you check out the First Friday Parade - starts at 6pm. The theme this year is, "History WILL Repeat Itself".

Clemson vs. PC

Looks like the weather will be nice for the weekend, but hot (as it usually is the first game). I guess we should be glad it's not a Noon game, but 3:30 PM games can be just as hot. I need to remember to get batteries for my gameday lap fan (best purchase ever!). :) And pack sunscreen!

And remember that if you are drinking 'adult' beverages on Saturday, make sure you drink plenty of water too...your body will thank you on Sunday.

Besides tailgating on Clemson gamedays, we also love seeing everyone's gameday fashion! We try to capture as many photos of you in your gameday best as we can, so don't be surprised if someone approaches you and wants to take your picture for ClemsonGirl.com. :)

Speaking of photos - we always try to take as many photos around Clemson on gameday as we can, but it's hard to get everywhere, so we're looking for volunteers again this year to help capture Clemson's gamedays. All we ask is that you take at least 75 unique photos throughout the day (tailgating fun, gameday outfits, inside the stadium, etc.) and then email them to us on Sunday by midnight EST. All volunteer photographers get a $25 gift certificate to a sponsor of their choice (businesses on the right side of this blog -->). If you're interested, send us an email (clemsongirlblog@gmail.com)!

Clemson vs. PC

Don't forget to wear orange on Friday for Solid Orange Fridays! Why not wear your Clemson Girl t-shirt? I'm sure it's totally work appropriate, right? :)

And on a completely unrelated note - we must take care of some unfinished business from last week. We never heard from the winner of The Sassy Palmetto giveaway, so we drew a new winner. Congrats to Lauren B. from Summerville, SC! Lauren, please email us to claim your tiger paw sculpture prize (clemsongirlblog@gmail.com). You have until Thursday at Noon EST!

See everyone at the game this weekend! Who's ready for another great season!?! Go Tigers!!

10.31.09 - Clemson vs. Coastal Carolina - Homecoming gameday photos

Another rainy gameday... what are the odds? The Tigers came out strong anyways and finished the game 49 against Coastal Carolina University who finished with three points.

So unfortunately I was unable to attend the game this past weekend. I hope everyone had a wonderful Homecoming Halloween Saturday in Clemson, despite the weather.

Even though I was absent this past weekend, I didn't want our blog readers to miss out on gameday photos - so I recruited three awesome Clemson Girls to take photos for me... and they went above and beyond the call of duty for you! These pictures are great and put my past gameday photos to shame. It's also great to have a different perspective of the games from a new lens...three different perspectives!

Let me tell you a little about these three lovely ladies..

Crystal Owens
- Originally from Walhalla, Crystal was one of two Clemson fans in a large Carolina extended family. She graduated from Clemson in 2000 with a degree in marketing. Before graduating, she married her high school sweetheart who also graduated from Clemson in 1997. She works for Anderson County in Environmental Services, where she is surrounded by avid Tiger fans. She has a 6 year old son, Jackson, who loves Clemson and his second word (after Daddy) was touchdown. If it's orange she loves it, and she's only missed two home games in 12 years!

Teal Rosenlund
- Teal is a sophomore at Clemson, majoring in Early Childhood Education. She has been a Clemson fan her entire life and actually lived in Clemson the first three years of her life. Then her family moved to Spartanburg, SC where she have lived since... At Clemson she is involved in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), SCAEYC (South Carolina Association Educating Young Children), and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority - where she serves as the Corresponding Secretary. She love Clemson football, fall weather, exercising, and friends a family.

Michelle DiMaio - Michelle is a sorority sister of mine from Clemson. She contacted me after reading my blog post looking for photography help. Michelle is a professional photographer with her own photography business - she specializes in natural light photography of newborns, babies, toddlers, and children in the Clemson/Seneca/Anderson area. . She's a 2001 Clemson alum married to a fellow alum who grew up in Charleston in a full family of Clemson alumni and just couldn't get away from all things orange. You will be hearing more about Michelle and her business this week - she took some great photos this weekend, especially of all of the little Tiger fans, and I'll be sharing some of her favorite photos from her business as well! She's amazing!

Thanks to these awesome ladies for their great pictures - they captured it all... costumes, Homecoming floats, the game, the rain, tailgates, gameday outfits, etc. etc. etc. I'm just so blown away...I feel like I was there just by viewing these photos.
