Who gets the keys and who’s riding shotgun? Clemson vs. FSU game prediction.
According to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles are playing to decide who has the keys and who’s in the back seat for the trip up I-85 to the ACC Championship game.
“Whoever wins this game is in the driver’s seat [to win the Atlantic],” Swinney said Tuesday. “The loser is still in the car but they aren’t driving.”
This game is why young men come to Clemson- to win championships.
It’s 80,000 of their biggest fans losing their voices. It’s Solid Orange. It’s the most exciting 25 seconds in college football. It’s taking on a ranked FSU squad. It’s playing against a top- five defense. It’s defending your home turf. It’s putting the FSU war chant and tomahawk chop on mute. It’s sending the Seminoles home with a loss for the fifth straight time.
Let’s check out the match ups for this week’s ACC showdown.
FSU OFFENSE VS. CLEMSON DEFENSE
If you can figure out who will be starting at quarterback for the Seminoles then you should probably consider finding a job as a psychic or fortune teller because I’m not even sure the FSU coaches know. All indications are that red-shirt freshman Clint Trickett will be making his first start after EJ Manuel suffered a shoulder injury against Oklahoma last Saturday. This season Trickett is 14-for-23 for 111 yards and four touchdowns. If he starts, look for the Clemson defense to blitz all afternoon to get pressure on the young quarterback and force him into some mistakes. Manuel, however, is more of a dual threat quarterback and the Tiger defense will have to respect his ability to run- at least until Rennie Moore and the defensive line take a few shots at his injured shoulder. With the lack of a successful running game-FSU ranks 99th in the country in rushing yards per game- Clemson will make the FSU quarterbacks beat them through the air. FSU is very banged up on offense- a hurt quarterback and only four healthy wide receivers- so if the Clemson defense can stop the big play, then…ADVANTAGE –CLEMSON
CLEMSON OFFENSE VS. FSU DEFENSE
The Clemson offense exploded on the scene last week gaining over 600 yards against Auburn, the defending national champions. Freshman wide receiver Sammy Watkins and quarterback Tajh Boyd received national accolades and praise from the national pundits. The Clemson offense will have to sustain that momentum and get off to a quicker start if they want have success against a top-five ranked FSU defense. Tight end Dwayne Allen should be another big target for Boyd this week since the Seminoles run a similar defense to Auburn, but with better athletes. Once again, the key to the game will be the offensive line and how well they can protect Boyd against a very good defensive front from FSU. Look for the Seminoles to try and stop Watkins which will give another young player the chance to step up and make a name for himself. Clemson has yet to be tested like they will be against a Florida State defense that has only allowed three touchdowns so far this season. ADVANTAGE- FLORIDA STATE
SPECIAL TEAMS
Every Clemson fan and player remembers that feeling as FSU kicker Dustin Hopkins nailed a 55-yard field goal as time expired to give the Seminoles the victory in Doak Campbell Stadium last year. Hopkins is 6-for-6 on field goals this year with a long of 53 yards against Oklahoma. Clemson kicker Chandler Catanzaro seemingly got over his kicking woes last week against Auburn as he was perfect on both field goals and extra points. Clemson punter Dawson Zimmerman could once again be a game changer and can flip the field with one of his booming kicks. Because of Hopkins’ ability to make the clutch kick, FSU has the upper hand on special teams. ADVANTAGE- FLORIDA STATE
BOTTOM LINE
Last week the key to the game was which defense would step up and make one stop that the other team couldn’t. This week Clemson’s defense will have to apply the pressure and force the already shaky FSU offense into mistakes and turnovers. If Tajh Boyd can continue to manage the game and get the ball to his play makers behind a much improved offensive line, the Tigers can continue their winning streak against the Noles in Death Valley.
I was happily surprised and willing to eat crow last week and I need the Tigers to prove me wrong again.
My heart says Clemson wins, but X’s and O’s say the Seminoles leave the Valley with the win.
FINAL SCORE- FLORIDA STATE 30, CLEMSON 27

Rachael of Lime Green Room Photography and I really enjoyed hanging out with Kim and her family at their tailgate during the shoot. They were all very nice people and you could see the tradition of Clemson spirit being passed down the generations of the family.
Clemson tradition runs deep in this family. Kim graduated from Clemson in 1988 with a BS in Management, her husband Jon graduated in 1989, and her brother Brian graduated just a few years earlier in 1985. Kim's brother and husband were both members of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma as well as a little sister to their fraternity.
While Kim and her brother were at Clemson, her parents had season tickets and tailgated for every game. As students, Kim and her brother brought friends to their tailgate each game. Even after graduation, the family continued to come to Clemson games and tailgate each year.
So it's no surprise that Kim's children and her brother's children have grown up loving Clemson football as well. Kim's daughter was 4 weeks old at her first Clemson game. One of Kim's favorite pictures is of her daughter when she was one year old sitting at a tailgate in her Clemson Cheerleader outfit.
Kim's brother, sister-in-law (also Kim), niece (Andrea), nephew (Aaron) along with Kim's husband, daughter (Aly) and son (Jacob) make numerous trips to Clemson each year and turn it into a mini-family vacation by staying the entire weekend.
Now that her nephew Aaron is a sophomore and her daughter Aly is a freshman at Clemson, Kim and her husband and her brother and his wife are continuing the same tailgate traditions as her parents. Now Aaron and Aly are bringing their friends, roommates, boyfriends and girlfriends by the tailgate to enjoy the pre and post game festivities.
Kim also keeps in touch with her and her husband's past college friends, and the friends always make sure to come by the tailgate when in town for a game. Kim and her sister-in-law coordinate the tailgate food for each game and always try to make sure they have plenty extra for all who come.
You can view the entire photo shoot on our Flickr site or view the slideshow below:
Thank you Kim for sharing your tailgate and your family with us.
And a special thanks to photographer Rachael of Lime Green Room Photography for doing the shoot -- if you haven't checked her out on Facebook, you're missing out!

09.17.11 - Clemson vs. Auburn gameday photos
Wow, what a game. Stay tuned to the blog for a full recap from Clemson Girl sports blogger Nikki Steele. Final score: Clemson 38, Auburn 24
Meanwhile, enjoy all of the photos from this weekend's game...
You can view all of the photos on our Flickr site or in the slideshow below.
Special thanks to those of you who emailed us your photos from Saturday. Do you have photos you would like to share? Email them to us at clemsongirlblog@gmail.com.
We'd also like to give a big thanks to Melissa Nelson who volunteered to help us take photos this weekend. She received a $25 gift card to a Clemson Girl sponsor of her choice.
Melissa enjoyed taking photos so much, she's asked to do it again this weekend for the Clemson vs. FSU game. We're looking for more volunteers to help us take photos in return for a $25 gift card to a Clemson Girl sponsor of your choice. All you would need to do is take a variety of gameday photos (tailgates, outfits, game action, etc.) -- at least 75. On Sunday you can upload them to a free photo sharing website (like SnapFish) and send us the link. It's all very simple to do!
If you're interested, please email us at clemsongirlblog@gmail.com. We can only take a few volunteers each game, so email us soon to make sure you get a volunteer spot!
Only about 3 more days until another big home game in Clemson! Go Tigers!!

New Clemson gameday looks at McAuley's Unique Boutique this week
Happy, happy Monday Clemson Girls! What a heck of a weekend...I'm still on cloud nine from Saturday's big win.
Big Clemson win + Monday = not a productive day. :)
We can't slow down yet though, Clemson has another big home game this coming weekend versus ACC rival Florida State.
Have you decided on your gameday outfit for this weekend? It looks like it will be another beautiful, football weather weekend in Clemson - but this tricky in-between Summer/Fall weather is hard to dress for. Dressing in layers is key.
Clemson Girl sponsor McAuley's Unique Boutique just sent us a preview of their newest Clemson gameday looks - so we had to share.
First and foremost, this Judith March dress is Ah-mazing and available starting TODAY at McAuley's Unique Boutique. This would be super cute with brown boots and a jean jacket.
You also can't go wrong with jeans and a cute orange or purple top.
McAuley's Unique Boutique also let us know that they are getting in new Clemson looks every day this week. Follow them on Twitter to see each outfit as they come in - they literally post a photo of the clothes as soon as they pull them out of the box.
You can visit McAuley's Unique Boutique in person or you can shop their large orange and purple selection on their website. Orders placed by 2pm will ship the same day & that shipping only takes one day throughout most of the southeast...so you have plenty of time to get an outfit for this weekend's game.
We can't wait to check out the new styles from McAuley's Unique Boutique this week!
Saturday's gameday photos will be posted soon! Stay tuned...

Game prediction: The Clemson Tigers are poised for a breakout game
The only real question is can they do it against the defending national champions and a 17-game winning streak.
Former Florida head Coach Urban Meyer was on hand for Clemson’s final practice before taking on Auburn Saturday in Death Valley and he said that all of the pieces were in place for the Tigers [of Clemson] to breakout.
“They have the talent and the coaches, and it’s gonna be a breakout game one of these days,” Meyer said. “The pieces are in place. One of these days you will wake up and have one of the most powerful offenses in the country.”
A 12 o’clock showdown is looming in the valley between the Tigers, so let’s see how Auburn and Clemson matchup.
AUBURN OFFENSE VS. CLEMSON DEFENSE
The Auburn offense began the 2011 season trying to replace a do-everything player in Cam Newton. There is plenty of talent on the offensive side of the ball, but it will take an army to replace Newton. Quarterback Barrett Trotter is leading the Auburn offense this year. He is 33-for-46 for 407 yards through the first two games. He has thrown for five touchdowns and one interception. How will Trotter, who has only started two games, handle the hostile Death Valley and being on the road for the first time in his career? While Trotter has had a fair amount of success this year throwing the ball, the orange and blue Tigers will try to account for most of their yards on the ground- by way of sophomore Michael Dyer and junior Onterio McCallebb. Dyer has rushed for 207 yards on 32 carries and four touchdowns. McCallebb has added 112 yards on the ground. Both are averaging well above five yards per carry. On the receiving end, look for big tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen who was a favorite target of Cam Newton in 2010. Lutzenkirchen has already caught two touchdown passes this year. The key for the Clemson defense will be stopping the run. The defensive line and linebackers will once again have to play with their eyes and stay in position. It will be crucial to have a healthy Rashard Hall back at safety as he is one of the leaders on the Clemson defense. ADVANTAGE- AUBURN
CLEMSON OFFENSE VS. AUBURN DEFENSE
Through the first two games, the Clemson offense has gotten off to a slow start, but with better play from the offensive line, they usually pick up the pace in the second half. That slow start can’t happen this weekend or Clemson may be playing from a hole that they can’t recover from. Tajh Boyd continued to improve last week against Wofford according to coaches. He needs to continue protecting the ball and not give the Auburn offense any extra opportunities. The key for Clemson will be the rushing attack. Andre Ellington could have another game like he did in 2010 against Auburn rushing for 140 yards on 22 carries. The Auburn defense ranks 118th against the run giving Ellington and freshman Mike Bellamy the opportunity to take some of the pressure off of Boyd. Auburn lost eight starters including first-round draft pick Nick Fairley. Auburn will look to linebacker Eltoro Freeman (5-11, 224) and defensive end Nosa Eguae (6-2, 255) will try to stop the run and cause Boyd problems in the passing game. ADVANTAGE- CLEMSON
SPECIAL TEAMS
Clemson has had many problems on special teams- a missed extra point, two missed field goals, a botched snap on a field goal attempt, and a botched fake field goal. They will have to get those problems fixed in order to win what should be a close game heading into the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Auburn, on the other hand, lost their all-time leading scorer in kicker Wes Byrum. Sophomore Codey Parkey will take over kicking duties and is perfect on the year on extra points and field goals. ADVANTAGE- EVEN
BOTTOM LINE - 2011 will probably be a lot like 2010- a field goal in the final seconds or an overtime drive will win the game. The key to this game will be defense. Both offenses will move the ball and most likely score some points. The team that wins will stop their opponent on that always crucial third-and-two or fourth-and-one. Defense is the name of the game.
FINAL SCORE: CLEMSON-24, AUBURN-28

A Scentsy giveaway that smells so good!
Have you heard of Scentsy? If you love filling your home with different aromas from candles, then you’re going to love today’s post. Scentsy sells safe, wickless alternative to scented candles -- decorative warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a low wattage light bulb instead of a traditional wick and flame.
That's right, flameless! Scentsy warmers are safe to use around kids and pets. No more second thoughts trying to remember if you blew out the candle. Scentsy uses a food-grade wax and only adds the finest scented oils. The exclusive Scentsy wax also has a melting point of just above normal body temperature so the melted wax will not burn. No Flame. No Wick. No Soot. No Lead.
Very Cool. :)
We were introduced to Scentsy by Clemson fan Ashley Miles who is a Scentsy Independent Director living in Upstate SC. She joined as a consultant in January 2010 after having been a Scentsy customer for over a year. She loved the products so much that she knew it was something she wanted to share with her family & friends. What started out as a hobby has turned into a fun part-time job for her.
Scentsy has 80 wonderful fragrances and over 100 different warmers to choose from, there truly is something for everyone!
These holiday warmers and scents are on my wish list – who doesn’t love the smells of Thanksgiving and Christmas? Love these!
Scentsy also offers adorable Scentsy Buddies for the kids (or the kid in you).
