When we were first introduced to Jacob Dean Photography's photos, we fell in love - gorgeous weddings, bridal portraits and engagement sessions - all with our favorite backdrop and details...Clemson!
Jacob Dean Photography is a local photography business run by Clemson alums and married couple Jacob and Jenny Dean. Jacob ('03 alum) grew up in Clemson and Jenny ('00, '03 alum) moved to the area in 1995. They were married in Clemson at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church and actually rode the CAT bus (with the Tiger) to the Madren Center’s Owen Pavilion for their reception.
They are located in Central, just minutes from campus. However, they will soon be relocating to Patrick Square, Clemson’s first traditional neighborhood development, in early 2011. They enjoy shooting all over Clemson's campus and in the downtown area. Some of their favorite spots include the amphitheater, the meadow at the Botanical Gardens, and, of course, Death Valley.
So it comes as no surprise that when browsing
Jacob Dean Photography's blog featuring all of their amazing sessions, we were immediately drawn to the post featuring Maggie & Jonathan's wedding.
Jonathan graduated from Clemson in 2003 as an electrical engineering major, and Maggie graduated soon after in 2007, a history major and has just graduated from the UGA Law School this past May. They currently reside in Clemson - and "LOVE it" according to Maggie - with their two dogs, Elle Woods (a shorkie) and Ruth Bader Ginsberg (a shih tzu).
The ProposalMaggie and Jonathan met through mutual friends at Clemson. They knew each other throughout college but didn't start dating until Maggie's senior year. Maggie's parents also met while both attending Clemson, more specifically at Tillman Hall.
In March of 2009, on a rainy day, Jonathan and Maggie decided to take their dog Elle Woods on a walk around campus. Despite the rain, the couple thought the campus looked beautiful and talked about how much they loved Clemson. Jonathan sneakily steered Maggie to Tillman Hall and asked her to grab a newspaper. When she turned around Jonathan proposed!
Afterward, Jonathan reminded Maggie, "your parents met here." Maggie told us, "It was very sweet and perfect." She also said that immediately after the proposal (and her acceptance), Jonathan's first call was to Pot Belly Deli to order breakfast, while Maggie was making her way through her cell phone contacts, spreading the news. :)
The Wedding"We got married in Clemson because we love it so much. We met in Clemson, fell in love in Clemson, and got engaged in Clemson," Maggie said. She grew up in Columbia, but really felt like she was growing up in Clemson. "We went to every Clemson football game," Maggie told us, "and my parents and grandparents also went to Clemson." So it only made since for her and Jonathan to have their wedding in Clemson.
The couple were married at the Old Stone Church in Clemson. The church is beautiful and one of Maggie's favorite memories of her wedding day was walking out of the church hand in hand with Jonathan.
Clemson TouchesMaggie's colors were not purple and orange, but beautiful pinks, greens and ivory. However, the couple integrated Clemson in so many special ways throughout their wedding.
The reception was held at the Keowee Key Clubhouse, which (of course) included a surprise visit from the Tiger Cub. Guests arrived and signed the guestbook, which was a copy of "
There's Something in These Hills". Guests also received a special koozie in purple and orange - the couple's monogram on one side, and the phrase "May the last Saturday of November always be merry" on the other (Tiger Town Graphics). Love that! And of course, the groom's cake was a replica of Death Valley.

The guests' hotel welcome bags also continued with a Clemson theme - they were orange with the couple's monogram in purple on the front. I think it's safe to say all of the guests were having a great time!
Maggie's dress was from Bella Vista Bridal in Columbia. It was made by Lazaro and was the first dress she tried on. "It was very 'me'," she told us.
Maggie adored her flowers - pink and green with some ivory accents and she says they were breathtaking (Dave McMillan from Greenville - Memories by McMillan).
Lastly, we asked Maggie for some advice for other Clemson girls in the process of planning a wedding - here's what she says:
Clemson is a perfect setting to have a wedding. The Old Stone church was gorgeous in March and for Summer and Fall weddings the Botanical Gardens is great. Also, for Summer and Fall receptions, the pavilion at the Madren Center is really pretty. My best friend got married at the Botanical Gardens and had her reception at the Pavilion and it was gorgeous. It is also a good idea to check all of the Clemson sports schedules prior to picking your wedding date...not just football. We got married during the Clemson vs. South Carolina baseball series. My grandfather listened to the game during the rehearsal and the wedding.
What an amazing wedding and amazing photos. Maggie and Jonathan's Clemson love story is so very sweet! We feel so lucky and grateful they have shared their wedding story with us today. Best wishes to them both and a long and happy marriage! Maggie, you were such a beautiful bride!
