April Showers Bring Clemson Flowers

Wedding Wednesday - Very Clemson Bouquets

As a bride-to-be and Clemson Girl, if you've made the decisiion that Clemson will be represented at your wedding in your wedding colors, the thought of translating orange and purple into your bouquets made seem daunting.

However, there are so many ways to go when it comes to orange and purple flowers...and the final product can really make a statement at your wedding, whether you go with full, bright bursts of orange, oranges and whites, orange and purples, a bright orange bouquet with a purple bridesmaid dress...or a completely non-traditional with a handmade bouquet....the results are guaranteed to be gorgeous.

Clemson Flowers

Hi! I'm Emily :) I moved to Clemson in 2000 for school, fell in love with the people and the town, and spent 10 amazing years in the town we all love that so many call our home away from home. This spring I am living in an apartment in Chattanooga, TN, and will be moving into my first house this winter!! I have spent A LOT of time planning for next year's garden, and I'd like to share some of the plants & flowers I've found that make me think of Clemson.

I've divided this into two groups. Plants I think would make nice Clemson themed gardens, and fall blooming plants that would make for great cut flowers to take to tailgates or have around for football parties. I've linked to websites that give what I consider to be good plant info sources - ideal growing conditions, planting instructions, bloom times etc.

Spring & Summer Blooms

Spring Blue Tulips (mixed) & Flamenco Oriental Poppy *

Incrediball Hydrangea & Mrs. Cholmendley Clematis

Small Globe Thistle & Giant Persian Allium

Common Orange Tiger Lily & Double Tiger Lily

Ammi Majus, Queen Anne's Lace & Asclepias, Butterfly Weed

Morning glories & petunias are also common and easy to grow annuals that come in great purple and white combinations that can be mixed with orange plants of different heights for a really pretty effect!

*I just got some of the poppies, and I can't wait to see how they do!

I think a lot of these flowers can be mixed & tied together in simple mason jar arrangements with a little ribbon for easy to transport tailgate flowers.

Wedding Wednesdays: Part I - Flower Power

I love, love, love orange flowers - and not simply because I have a bias towards orange (Go Clemson!) but also because orange flowers are bright, festive, and would work for a wedding year round - no matter which season your wedding is in.

From the bridal bouquet to the entire wedding party - I love solid orange bouquets, orange with a pop of another color, other colors with a pop of orange, or an all out explosion of color.

Orange is such a great accent color and I love how bright it looks against the bride's white dress.


And while we're mixing oranges with other lovely colors - why not purple? It seems an obvious choice, right? :)


Or go a less traditional route and try the latest trend of non-flower flowers - like this crafty felt bouquet.

Finally...don't forget your groom and his groomsmen - loving the orange tie matched with the oh-so-pretty...er...ahem...handsome orange flowers.
